When you get your travel documents from your travel planner, do you read them over or give them a cursory glance? Here's why you really should read them over as soon as they are received.
1. Know what items are paid in advance and when final payments are due. Will there be resort fees, gratuities or taxes?
2. Will you need a visa? Does your passport need renewed? Your travel documents will list which types of ID are required for your type of travel. Once you have that information, make sure you carry proper identification. Your state issued ID is not valid for international air travel and neither is your passport card, but either will get you onto a closed-loop cruise. (Although we suggest always carrying a traditional passport book for emergencies.)
3. Make no assumptions. When/where are you meeting your tour group or airport transfer? Is breakfast included with your accommodations? Verify everything with the booking agent or your travel advisor.
4. People make mistakes. We make typos, enter incorrect dates of birth, forget minor (and sometimes major) details. Read over any confirmation or documents received to be sure that everything is correct as soon as you receive it. You know your information better than anyone so you’re most likely to catch an error. Reading it over in a timely manner ensures that there is time to fix it before expensive change fees take effect.
We know it can seem like a chore, but reviewing your documents promptly will ensure that your vacation is perfectly planned from the start.
